Sinochem News Recently, the Henan Province Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association organized key enterprises to study the “15th Five-Year Plan for Accelerating Agricultural and Rural Modernization”(hereinafter referred to as the “Plan”) issued by the State Council, and launched discussions to clarify that Henan’s petrochemical industry should be based on the dual positioning of a major agricultural province and a major chemical province, and strive to transform into the “four modernizations” of green, precise, intelligent and service-oriented.
Su Dong, executive vice president of the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association of Henan Province, said that the “Plan” clearly proposes agricultural emission reduction and carbon sequestration and green transformation across the region, which requires chemical companies to simultaneously realize green transformation at the production and product ends. On the production side, enterprises should vigorously promote energy-saving and clean processes, tap the emission reduction potential of coal chemical industry, promote wastewater recycling and waste gas resource recycling, and reduce carbon emissions and pollutant emissions; on the product side, they must accelerate the elimination of highly toxic and highly residual agricultural materials, vigorously develop environmentally friendly products such as humic acid fertilizers and biodegradable preparations, establish a carbon footprint accounting system for the entire life cycle of products, and provide data support for the carbon traceability of agricultural products.
“Henan’s coal chemical industry has a high carbon emission intensity and is facing greater pressure to reduce emissions. However, Henan’s local biobased materials and ecological fertilizers have formed industrial advantages. It is recommended that the government build a green agricultural materials certification platform, give government procurement and market promotion preference to products that meet the standards, and accelerate the green upgrading of the industry with policy dividends.” Some business representatives said.
The meeting proposed that precision is the core requirement of the Plan for agricultural chemicals. In the past, general extensive agricultural materials were difficult to meet the needs of refined planting. In this regard, Henan chemical companies should focus on differences in soil types, crop varieties, and growth cycles, develop exclusive formulated fertilizers, and launch targeted low-toxic pesticides for specific pests and diseases to achieve on-demand supply.
In terms of intelligence, Henan’s chemical industry should link up with the Internet of Things, big data, and intelligent agricultural machinery companies to build an integrated field operation system. In the view of representatives of key enterprises, enterprises should not only sell agricultural materials in the future, but should simultaneously develop special inputs suitable for smart equipment, including controlled-release smart granular fertilizers and special ultra-low-volume liquid agents for flight defense.
In terms of service-oriented, Henan chemical companies must actively build a complete service chain covering pre-, mid-production and post-production. The government must introduce industrial integration support policies, cultivate a number of “chemical production + agricultural services” two-wheel drive leading enterprises, and play a demonstration role. Drive the entire industry to transform its business model.
